As 2020 draws to a close, it’s natural to reflect as we also plan for 2021!
Nothing could have prepared any of us for what 2020 has brought, but we’re delighted to be ending the year on a high note!
The good news is that during this year we:
- Stayed open throughout both periods of National Lockdown.
- Amended our working practices and strengthened health and safety measures to keep both our team and clients safe
- Invested in our fleet and currently have more trailers on order
- Are set to end the year in a financially-sound position.
Looking back, the increased demand started in March, as the Covid-19 crisis started to bite and deepen.
Our customers increasingly relied on trailers to store steel destined for construction, buildings, modular housing and projects forced to go on hold during National Lockdown.
Trailers were increasingly used to transport portakabins and sections of modular “housing” that were used as temporary buildings for a variety of uses. These included isolation units and temporary hospital accommodation. Demand for delivery services also showed a sharp increase, that shows no sign of abating.
A combination of business resilience and a firm client base stood Leeds Trailers in good stead as we moved from Spring to Summer and we continued to report a healthy trading position as we adjusted to the “new normal”.
Like many people, we continued with our new working patterns, with Julie providing business and administrative support from home and MD Neil keeping everything going from our Birstall HQ.
We’ve also added an extra trailer yard in Dewsbury to help with capacity.
Strengthening the fleet – In response to sustained demand, we have been investing throughout the year, with a steady stream of trailers arriving in the yard. These are largely going out on hire.
As we moved from late Summer into Autumn, demand grew so high that we had to establish and maintain a waiting list. This was partly caused by a national shortage of trailers to buy, plus increased demand for hire facilities.
We have kept in close touch with clients and thanked change this to thank them for their ongoing support and patience.
Looking ahead – We have high hopes for 2021, particularly as the Government continues to roll out its vaccination programme.
We continue to take delivery of new trailers and orders have been placed for new box, curtain and flat trailers as we move into the New Year.
MD Neil said, “We are optimistic that volumes will continue to grow and hope that the Brexit situation is resolved, without undue damage to the economy.
“The development of an effective vaccine has obviously given everyone a boost and, like everybody, we hope that normality of life will soon resume.”
Finally – To reflect the unprecedented times, we are delighted to be sending out electronic festive messages, in lieu of sending Christmas cards. Instead we are donating to a local children’s charity – Let June Make A Difference
Our sincere thanks for your ongoing support during these unprecedented times – a Very Merry Christmas and here’s to a Happier New Year!
